Geography
At Brooklands we are proud to hold the Primary Geography Quality Mark recognising our exceptional geography teaching and learning.
Our aim is for our pupils to develop and build an extensive base of geographical knowledge and vocabulary as well as a wide understanding of the issues at the heart of the subject. Through studying geography our children develop their curiosity and fascination for the world around them.
Our Geography curriculum is built around the principles of cumulative knowledge focusing on the topics of spaces, places, scale, human and physical processes with an emphasis on how content is connected, and relational knowledge is acquired. Geography is planned sequentially and cumulatively from Year 1 through to Year 6 ensuring that important subject knowledge and skills are revisited with increasing levels of challenge and provides opportunities for pupils to apply and develop their subject vocabulary confidently.
As well as delivering the subject content of geography, the curriculum also make links with other subjects including reading, writing and mathematics, helping our children to acquire and develop the skills and confidence to undertake geographical enquiry, problem-solving and decision-making in context.
Brooklands further benefits from a wealth of resources including maps, globes and aerial photographs to support geographical enquiry, and we also have a wide range of books linked to each topic.
